The plant, with a total covered area of 260,000 square metres, was commissioned by the Turin-based Fiat company, for the production and distribution in Europe of the Fiat 126. The plant, a prefabricated structure with roofing of prestressed reinforced concrete lattice girders, comprises buildings for bodywork production, sheet-metalwork, paint shop, paint store and finishing, spare parts store, locomotives and vehicle delivery, as well as offices and facilities. When it started operation in 1974 it had a production capacity of about 2,000 cars per day.
