Separator

The bridge over the Straits of Rande in Vigo Bay, in Galicia on the Atlantic coast of Spain, has an overall length of 2,420 metres and is 23.20 metres wide. The cable-stayed central structure in steel and reinforced concrete composite construction is suspended 50 metres above the estuary. The bridge has a 400-metre span over the navigation channel, and two symmetrical 148-metre side spans. The foundations with reinforced concrete piles were driven to a depth of 35 metres below sea level. In 1979 the bridge received the European ECCS-CECM (European Convention for Constructional Steelwork) award in Montreaux (CH).
