FOURTH IRON AND STEEL CENTRE IN TARANTO

Expansion into the industrial sector

Separator

The new iron and steel plant at Taranto was built in response to the political need to boost income and employment levels in Italy's underdeveloped south. The plant occupies an area of 60 hectares on the coastal plain to the north of the commercial port, between the Via Appia and the provincial highway for Statte. The plant was completed in 1965, with the construction of the blast furnace, the steel mill, the hot rolling mill and maritime facilities.
